Mirror Fitting Instructions - Adhesive

Important Information

These instructions are for installing a single mirror using adhesive only.
Our recommended mirror adhesive is supplied with your order and must be used as directed for safe and long-lasting installation.

Mirror Backing Check

  • Do not apply adhesive to safety-backed mirrors.
Safety backing is a white or clear plastic film applied to the back of some mirrors for shatter resistance.

  • Foil-backed mirrors (metallic in appearance) are suitable for adhesive fitting.
Foil backing protects the mirror from adhesive damage and is safe to use.

Warning: Using the wrong adhesive or applying it to a safety-backed mirror may cause the glue to degrade the paint and silver backing over time.

Tools & Materials Required

  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Mastic gun
  • Supplied mirror adhesive
  • Stanley blade (for cutting nozzle)
  • Glass suckers (optional, for easier lifting)
  • Baton or temporary support (recommended for mirrors over 15kg)
  • Low modulus neutral cure silicone (for sealing in wet areas)

Support Baton (Recommended for Heavy Mirrors)

  • For mirrors over 15kg, we strongly recommend installing a temporary baton or ledge at the bottom to support the mirror while the adhesive cures.

  • This prevents slippage during the drying process.

  • A piece of skirting board or timber offcut works well. Ensure it's level and secure.

Surface Preparation

  • Make sure the wall surface is clean, dry, and dust-free.

  • Lightly mark the desired mirror position using a pencil and tape measure.

Adhesive Application

  1. Lay the mirror on a soft, flat surface with the painted backing facing up.

  2. Cut the nozzle of the adhesive tube with a Stanley blade and load it into a mastic gun.

  3. Apply horizontal lines of adhesive approximately 10cm apart across the back.

  4. Avoid applying adhesive too close to the edges to prevent squeeze-out when mounting.

Mounting the Mirror

  1. Carefully lift the mirror (use glass suckers if needed) and position it on the wall.

  2. If using a baton, gently rest the mirror on it for support.

  3. Press the mirror firmly into place and hold it for at least 3 minutes.

  4. The adhesive sets gradually—do not disturb the mirror while it cures.

Curing Time

  • Allow the adhesive to fully cure for 24 hours before removing any supports or applying pressure.

  • Ensure the room is at a stable ambient temperature to promote proper drying.

Sealing (Optional – For Wet Areas)

  • For mirrors installed in bathrooms, kitchens, or other moisture-prone areas, we recommend sealing the edges.

  • Apply a thin bead of low modulus neutral cure silicone around the back edge to protect the mirror from water and cleaning products.

  • Our sealant is clear, but coloured versions are available if preferred.
