Framed Mirror Hanging Instructions – French Cleats

Important: Do not lift or carry the mirror by the top edge of the frame. Always use two people for safe handling and installation.

Tools Required:

  • Tape measure
  • Laser or spirit level
  • Pencil
  • Masking tape
  • Drill
  • Fixings suitable for your wall type (not supplied)

Before You Begin:

  • Check the wall for electrical cables or pipes before drilling.

  • It’s recommended to switch off the electricity supply during installation.

  • Wall fixings are not supplied, as the type and size will depend on your specific wall substrate (e.g. plasterboard, brick, or concrete).

Installation Steps:

  1. Your mirror will come with two aluminium French cleat rails already attached to the back of the frame.

  2. Drill holes in the wall cleats, spacing them no more than 120mm apart for secure fixing.

  3. Carefully measure the vertical distance between the top and bottom cleats on the back of the mirror. It’s best to do this with the cleats temporarily fixed in place on the mirror.

  4. Transfer this measurement to the wall. Use masking tape and a spirit or laser level to mark the cleat positions accurately.

  5. Mark through the cleat holes onto the wall, drill pilot holes, and insert the correct wall fixings.

  6. Attach the cleats to the wall in the marked positions, checking once again that they are level and parallel.

  7. With two people, carefully lift the mirror and position it above the wall-mounted cleats.

  8. Gently slide the mirror down until the cleats engage fully and the mirror is securely supported.

Final Check:

  • Ensure the mirror is flush against the wall and sitting firmly on the cleats.

  • Use a level to confirm it is straight.

  • Step back and admire your newly installed mirror.
